BT Tourism Tender Cards

In 1993, three years before British Telecom (BT) introduced the new chip based telephone card, BT contacted various telephone card manufacturers to tender for the contract to supply and produce The New BT Phonecard (pictured right). Nine companies responded and produced samples for the tender adjudication process. This webpage features the sample cards produced by Orga Card Systems (UK) Ltd.

Example J - Orga - Green header, with white pseudo-optical strip and no white margin around card (picture extends to edge of card).

Orga submitted two identical sets apart from the finish, one in a matt finish and one in a gloss finish.

1. Full set of six cards in matt finish; reverse printing on a white background; not wrapped; not embedded. There were 10 sets submitted.

TTCJ003 - Scots Guard Piper - matt finish - reverse printed
TTCJ004 - William Shakespeare - matt finish - reverse printed
TTCJ005 - Welsh Folk Costume - matt finish - reverse printed
TTCJ006 - King Henry VIII - matt finish - reverse printed

2. Orga also submitted, a similar set of six cards but in gloss finish. There were 10 sets submitted.

TTCJ008 - Finn McCool - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCJ009 - Scots Guard Piper - gloss finish - reverse printed

TTCJ012 - King Henry VIII - gloss finish - reverse printed

3. Orga also submitted a single card in matt finish printed with the legend "IQ UNIQA Ein unternehmender Preussag und der Bundesdruckerei" on the front, and an abstract pattern on the reverse. Not wrapped; not embedded; but punched. There were 10 cards submitted.

4. Orga also submitted a single card with an image of a table telephone printed on the front; plain reverse; wrapped; embedded. There were 10 cards submitted.
