BT Tourism Tender Cards

In 1993, three years before British Telecom (BT) introduced the new chip based telephone card, BT contacted various telephone card manufacturers to tender for the contract to supply and produce The New BT Phonecard (pictured right). Nine companies responded and produced samples for the tender adjudication process. This webpage features the sample cards produced by Schlumberger Technologies.

Example K - SCHUMBERGER - Green header, white strip and white margin around card, embedded with Schlumberger chip module.

Schlumberger submitted one complete set of six cards in a gloss finish, and one single card in a matt finish.

1. Full set of six cards in a gloss finish; reverse printing on a black background; not wrapped; embedded (silver module.) William Shakespeare, Scots Guard Piper, and Finn McCool were punched and embedded to the right, the other three designs to the left. The gloss finish was a sprayed on lacquer, with evidence of an orange peel effect. There were 56 sets submitted.

TTCK003 - Scots Guard Piper - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCK004 - William Shakespeare - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCK005 - Welsh Folk Costume - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCK006 - King Henry VIII - gloss finish - reverse printed

2. Schlumberger also submitted a single card the Finn McCool design; gloss finish; reverse printing on a black background; wrapped; embedded. There were 120 cards submitted.
