BT Tourism Tender Cards

In 1993, three years before British Telecom (BT) introduced the new chip based telephone card, BT contacted various telephone card manufacturers to tender for the contract to supply and produce The New BT Phonecard (pictured right). Nine companies responded and produced samples for the tender adjudication process. This webpage features the sample cards produced by GPT without full face printing (Example G cards). In addition GPT also submitted a full set of six cards with full face printing please see Example F cards.

Example G - GPT Payphone Systems - Green header, no white strip, white margin around card

In addition to the Example F GPT cards, GPT also submitted a full set of six cards of non full-face printing.

1. Full set of six cards in gloss finish; reverse printing on a black background; wrapped; not embedded. The reverse of the wrapper was printed with a dove grey background with "£10" printed in a darker grey; barcode 5 016351700020; and instructions for use in black print. This wrapper was identical to that used on the £10 full face printed cards. Quantities of each card in the set varied between 20 and 50 of each.

TTCG004 - William Shakespeare - gloss finish - reverse printed

TTCG006 - King Henry VIII - gloss finish - reverse printed

2. There were also two similar cards to the above set, but with stickers attached to the card under the wrapping stating "SURFACE PRINT SAMPLE DO NOT REMOVE LABEL". These two cards were the Scots Guard Piper and Welsh Folk Costume. There were 20 of each submitted.
