BT Tourism Tender Cards

In 1993, three years before British Telecom (BT) introduced the new chip based telephone card, BT contacted various telephone card manufacturers to tender for the contract to supply and produce The New BT Phonecard (pictured right). Nine companies responded and produced samples for the tender adjudication process. This webpage features the sample cards produced by Delphic Card Systems.

Example D - DELPHIC - Green header, white strip and white margin around card, redrawn.

Delphic Card Systems submitted just one complete set of the six card tourism design for the tender:

1. Full set of six cards in gloss finish; reverse printing on a white background; not wrapped; not embedded. 50 sets of the six card design were submitted in total.

TTCD001 - Beefeater - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCD002 - Finn McCool - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCD003 - Scots Guard Piper - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCD004 - William Shakespeare - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCD005 - Welsh Folk Costume - gloss finish - reverse printed
TTCD006 - King Henry VIII - gloss finish - reverse printed

Delphic also submitted a card printed with the Philips logo and "Philips Communications Systems" across the centre. Reverse printed with the Philips name and logo, also "Smart Cards and Systems" and a telephone number. Wrapped in a similar fashion to that used by Gemplus for their production cards, and was submitted as a sample of the wrapping that Delphic could produce. There were 3 cards submitted.
